LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Berlin’s (Conn.) Jessica Petit, Deer Park’s (Ohio) Gina Wilson, Ardrey Kell’s (N.C.) Maddie Christensen, Northeast’s (Kan.), Sheby Underwood and Waterville/Mansfied’s (Wash.) Harlie Zones were named 2023 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week. The quintet garnered recognition for games played April 24-30.
Petit was a perfect 12-for-12 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, nine RBI and seven runs scored. She registered four hits in each game. Petit matched a season-best with four RBI against Lewis Mills. She doubled two times and tallied three RBI and three runs scored versus Hall. Petit added a triple, two RBI and two runs scored against Middletown.
Wilson went 9-for-10 at the plate with 12 RBI, 16 runs scored and 11 walks (.952 OBP). She added five doubles, a triple and a home run, slugging 1.900. Five of those free passes, which led to five runs, came in game two versus Madeira. Wilson drove in four runs in each of the other contests, while also scoring five times against Mariemont. She doubled, homered and scored twice versus Seven Hills.
Christensen batted .818 with a double, three triples, a home run, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. She opened the week with a grand slam and two doubles in a 4-for-5 performance versus Olympic. Christensen clubbed two more long balls, drove in two and scored twice in game two versus the Trojans. She collected three RBI against Providence and scored four times in a win against Berry.
South Central Region
Over a six-game stretch last week, Underwood hit .812 (13-for-16) with 10 extra-base hits, 22 RBI and 13 runs scored. She tallied five doubles, three triples, two home runs, a 1.875 slugging percentage and reached base at an .857 clip. Underwood drove in four runs in five of the six games and recorded three, three-hit contests. She doubled three times against Southeast and hit both her round trippers versus Cress. In the circle, she made three appearances, striking out 25 and surrendering three hits over 11 innings of work.
Zones went 8-for-9 with five home runs and 14 RBI last week. She scored 12 runs, slugged 2.667, walked five times and recorded a .933 on-base percentage. Zones launched three of her homers and drove in four runs in game two against Manson. In game one of the twinbill, she registered six RBI. She went 3-for-3 and scored three times in both of those contests. Zones also was two-for-three with a double, long ball and four RBI versus Ephrata.

Winners are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring campaign with a player from each of five separate MaxPreps’ high school regions being selected.
