LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Norton (Mass.) High’s Kelly Nelson, Bellmont’s (Ind.) Macy Montgomery, Rappahannock’s (Va.) Meredith Slaw, Butler’s (Ky.) Michaela Stapp and Russell’s (Mont.) Tristin Achenbach were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week winners for their outstanding play during the week of May 22-28.

East Region
Nelson was stellar in the circle for the (21-1) Lancers, going 4-0 for the week with four shutouts, five hits, no runs, two walks and 66 strikeouts in 27 innings. She had an one-hitter and two two-hitters, and tossed a no-hitter in a 9-0 win on Friday against Ashland.

North Region
Montgomery registered two shutouts in two appearances for the (19-1) Braves. In Friday’s no-hitter against Marion, she collected 16 strikeouts and walked no one, then hurled an one-hitter the following day against Columbia City with one walk and 17 strikeouts.

South Region
Shaw went 6-for-9 (.667) with five runs scored, three doubles, one homer and eight RBI over two games. She had three hits in both games, including five RBI and two doubles last Wednesday against Essex.

South Central Region
Stapp hit .833 (5-for-6) in a pair of lopsided victories for the Bears. She scored six runs and collected two doubles, a triple, homer and six RBI.

West Region
Achenbach was 3-0 for the (23-1) Rustlers with a trio of one-hitters this past week. She walked one in each of the three contests, with 46 strikeouts and just one unearned run over 19 innings. Achenbach had 10 strikeouts in five innings against Helena, 16 more over seven against Great Falls and fanned 20 of the 24 batters she faced on Friday against Big Sky.

The 2016-17 MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.orgNFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of the five regions. During the fall campaign, one player is selected each week.
