LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trenton (Mo.) High School’s Ainsley Tolson was named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week for games played Oct. 3-9.
Behind a dominant pitching performance in the Grand River District tournament, which included a perfect game, Tolson propelled Trenton into the Missouri state playoffs. In the district title game against Lexington, the sophomore righty was perfect as she struck out 15 and did not allow a single Hornet to reach base in a 3-0 victory. Two days earlier in the semifinals, Tolson twirled a one-hit shutout in a 7-0 victory over Penney. She struck out six, walked one and also went 2-for-2 at the plate from the leadoff spot with a run scored.
Tolson capped off the regular season with a complete-game victory over Chillicothe in which she allowed two runs on five hits, fanned 10 and walked two. She helped herself out at the plate as well with two hits, a home run and four RBI in the 5-2 win. For the week, Tolson was 3-0 with 0.67 ERA and 31 strikeouts.
