LOUISVILLE, Ky. – When the final out was recorded on day one of the 2026 NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic, the clock had already struck well past midnight at the South Commons Complex. Five teams opened up with 2-0 marks as the 10th edition of the tournament got underway on Feb. 27. The start of the tournament was delayed due to nearly two inches of rain accumulating overnight in Columbus and finished with Rio Grande defeating Brenau after 1:07 a.m. Saturday morning.

Lindsey Wilson, Mobile, Reinhardt, Johnson and Campbellsville all earned two wins on day one. Behind a four-run sixth, the Blue Raiders opened with a 6-3 win over William Carey and edged Coastal Georgia, 3-2 in eight innings. Emerson McKinnis and Kaiden Rodgers hit back-to-back solo homers to open the scoring against Carey. After the Crusaders pushed ahead 3-2 in the fourth, the Blue Raiders grabbed the win with their four-run inning. After Coastal Georgia forced extras with a run in the bottom of the seventh, Lindsey Wilson scored two in the top of the eighth and held on for the one-run victory.

Mobile combined for 17 runs as it topped Stillman 10-5 and No. 7 Cumberlands, 7-1. The Rams recorded 13 hits, three off the bat of Diana Arcay, in their opening win over the Tigers and used a pair of three-run innings in their win over the Patriots.

No. 15 Reinhardt defeated No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett, 6-4, and United States Sports University, 7-4. The Eagles erased an early 2-0 deficit with three runs in the second and another in the third. The lead was briefly pushed to 8-2, but a grand slam was taken off the board due to batting out of order. The Grizzlies were able to get within 4-3 in the sixth, but Reinhardt added two important insurance runs as GGC did score one in the seventh to make it 6-4. Against USSU, Reinhardt jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and held on for the 7-4 win.

Johnson cruised past Rio Grande in five innings, 14-6, scoring five in the third and ending it with a four-run fifth. Autumn Caywood stroked a two-out, two-run single in the first inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit in a 4-2 win over Faulkner.

Campbellsville outscored Stillman and Thomas by a combined 19-1 in two five-inning triumphs. CU opened its tournament with an 8-0 win over Stillman and continued to roll offensively in an 11-1 victory over the Nighthawks.

Other programs picking up one win on Friday were William Carey, Coastal Georgia, Louisiana Christian, Truett McConnell, Faulkner, Cumberlands, Thomas and Rio Grande.

Carey, LCU, Rio Grande and Cumberlands each rebounded from an opening loss with big five-inning wins. The Crusaders thumped TMU, 16-0, LCU knocked off Freed-Hardeman, 9-3, Rio topped Brenau, 16-5 and Cumberlands defeated U.S. Sports University, 15-1.

Truett McConnell was the first team to win on Friday and did it in dramatic fashion when Cassie Boatwright walked it off with a three-run long ball for 9-6 win over Freed-Hardeman. Faulkner was down to its last out when Chloe Davidson laced a walk-off two-run double to upset No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett, 2-1. Davidson also hit a leadoff homer in the defeat to Johnson. Thomas defeated Brenau, 12-10, in an 11-inning marathon.
