Kansas City, Mo. - Marissa Hawkins of Valley City State (N.D.) and Cheyenne Strong of Tennessee Wesleyan were named NAIA Player and Pitcher of the Week for games played April 3-10.
Hawkins, who powered the Vikings to conference sweep of Viterbo last week, hit .917 (11-for-12) with two doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI and a 2.083 slugging percentage. The senior homered in each contest and registered a weekend-best five RBI in the series finale.
For the second week in a row, Strong earned the nod for her dominance in the circle. The senior hurler went 4-0, twirled another no-hitter, fanned 35 and did not allow a run over 26 innings of work. Against Truett McConnell, Strong held the Bears hitless, striking out 11 and walking one in a 1-0 triumph. She also tossed complete-game shutouts against Union, Point and Kentucky Christian.
Student-athletes were nominated for their performances and were selected out of a pool of conference and Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) award winners.
