LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo and Arizona State’s G Juarez were named Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played March 19-25.
Alo, a freshman from Hau’ula, Hawai’i, batted .556 with all five of her hits leaving the yard, 11 RBI and a 2.222 slugging percentage. In helping the No. 2 Sooners to a 4-0 week, she scored eight runs, drew six walks and recorded a .733 on-base percentage.
In a three-game Big 12 sweep of Texas Tech, Alo went 4-for-5 with four home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored. In Sunday’s finale, she recorded her second career multi-homer and drove in a single-game best six RBI. Alo also homered (first inning) and scored the game-winning run in a 2-1 11-inning win at CSUN.
Playing a part in all four Pac-12 victories, Juarez was dominant force in the circle for the eighth-ranked Sun Devils. She posted a 3-0 mark with 0.00 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 22 innings of work. She recorded a shutout and a save, scattered 10 hits, walked just one and held her opponents to a .130 batting average.
She opened the week by holding the top-ranked Washington Huskies to no runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in a 2-0 victory that sealed the series for Arizona State. In the opener at then-No. 20 California, Juarez went the distance with a career-high 17 strikeouts (2 R, 0 ER) in a 3-2 10-inning victory over the Bears. She came in relief in games two and three to pick up the victories. In game two, the rookie hurler was perfect over the final three innings, punching out eight in another extra-inning win. Juarez capped off the week with a two-inning save (0 R, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB) in the finale.
