LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UNCG’s Maycin Brown and Texas’ Hailey Dolcini were named Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The duo is being recognized for their outstanding play for the week of March 21-27.
Brown was a perfect 8-for-8 at the plate with three home runs and a 2.500 slugging percentage, helping the Spartans to a three-game Southern Conference sweep of Mercer. She added three doubles, eight runs scored and six RBI, while reaching base at a .900 on-base clip (HBP, Sac Fly). In the series finale, Brown was a triple short of the cycle (3-for-3) and scored three times. In game two of Saturday’s twinbill, she left the yard twice and drove in four runs.
Dolcini played a major role in the 21st-ranked Longhorns’ 4-0 week. The senior hurler finished 4-0 with a 0.37 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 19 innings of work. Dolcini surrendered an earned run on four hits, holding her opposition to a miniscule .066 batting average. She twirled a one-hit five-inning shutout at Texas State in which Dolcini fanned nine and walked two. The Ferndale, Calif. native struck out 10 and surrendered one hit in 6.2 innings at Kansas. Dolcini also sent eight of 10 batters she faced back to the dugout in four shutout innings versus Lamar.
The Division I Player & Pitcher of Week awards must be nominated by member head coaches and are voted on by the NFCA's Division I Top 25 Committee, which consists of one head coach representing each of the 32 NCAA DI Conferences.
