LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Stony Brook’s Corinne Badger and Northwestern’s Danielle Williams captured Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors. The duo is being recognized for their outstanding play for the week of Feb. 21-27.

Badger slugged her way to the weekly honor, homering six times, including leaving the yard in her first four official at bats. Leading the Seawolves to a 4-1 season-opening showing at the FIU Softball Invitational, Badger drove in 11 runs, slugged 2.000 and reached base at a .571 on-base clip. Her biggest round tripper on the weekend was a one-out, three-run walk-off, lifting Stony Brook to a 4-3 win over Brown. The junior catcher’s first two base knocks of 2022 were a solo long ball and two-run shot in a 5-3 win over Drexel. In a 6-2 win over the host Panthers, Badger launched her third dinger, a three-run first-inning shot, and added a solo blast in the fifth.

Returning to her home state, Williams put forth a strong showing at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, twirling shutouts against No. 9 Oregon and No. 5 Washington. The senior lefty from Pleasanton, Calif. went 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 20 innings of work. She surrendered a run on six hits with five walks and held her opponents to a .100 batting average. Leading the 27-team field in ERA, Williams was one out away from no-hitting the Ducks and finished with a two-hit shutout (5 K, 2 BB). In another 1-0 win over a top-10 program, Williams fanned eight Huskies and held them to three hits. She also picked up a win with two innings of shutout relief in a nine-inning triumph over San Diego State.

The Division I Player & Pitcher of Week awards are voted on by the NFCA's Division I Top 25 Committee, which consists of one head coach representing each of the 32 NCAA DI Conferences.
