LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Clemson’s Valerie Cagle and Virginia Tech’s Keely Rochard were selected DI Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The duo was honored for their play during the week of March 15-22. 

Cagle was clutch at the plate and in the circle as the 20th-ranked Tigers swept four road games from Louisville in Atlantic Coast Conference play. In leading Clemson to its 17th straight win, she hit .643 with a double, two home runs and six RBI, while posting a 2-0 record, 0.39 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 18 innings of work. In the series finale, the Yorktown, Va. native went 3-for-3 with both long balls and drove in all four runs (4-2 win), while also going the distance in the circle (5 H, 2 R, 1 ER) striking out 14 and not issuing a walk.

In her first start of the series, Cagle tossed an 11-inning complete-game shutout. She scattered seven hits, struck out 14 and walked four batters. Cagle also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. For the weekend, Cagle did not allow an extra-base hit and held the Cardinals to a .182 batting average.

Rochard had Pitt’s number over the weekend, keying the 19th-ranked Hokies to an ACC sweep. Over 18 innings of work, she struck out 46 batters and allowed just seven baserunners (three singles, three walks, one hit batter). Rochard twirled two masterful one-hit shutouts in which she fanned 19 in each start, issuing one and two walks, respectively. In her other start, Rochard sat down eight and allowed one hit in four innings of work. For the weekend, the Williamsburg, Va. native blanked the Panthers and held them to an .051 batting average.
