LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sacramento State’s Lewa Day and Oregon’s Brooke Yanez captured the final Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the week honors of 2021. The duo was recognized for their outstanding play during the week of May 3-9.

Over three games, Day hit .857 with four home runs, 10 RBI and a 2.571 slugging percentage. Getting off to such a hot start in Sacramento State’s series against Southern Utah, Day was intentionally walked in five of her last six plate appearances and finished the weekend with a .917 on-base percentage. The sophomore third baseman opened May 7th’s double header, going 6-for-6 with two long balls, two runs scored and five RBI in each contest. On the final day, Day was walked three times and scored twice.

Yanez was stellar in three appearances (two starts) for No. 11 Oregon as she picked up a pair of victories over then-No. 7 Arizona. The junior southpaw finished 2-0 with a 0.38 ERA and 24 strikeouts to one walk in 18.2 total innings. Yanez opened with a complete-game victory in the series opener, fanning eight and issuing a free pass in the 2-1 walk-off victory. In game two, she twirled a four-hit shutout, striking out 12 with zero walks. The Ventura, Calif. native capped off the weekend with 4.2 innings of shutout relief in the series finale. This is Yanez’s third Pitcher of the Week honor, second as a Duck.
