LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Texas’ Miranda Elish and Oregon’s Brooke Yanez were named 2020 Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding play during the opening week of the season.

Elish had a career weekend as she powered the Longhorns (6-0) to a perfect mark at the Texas Classic. The senior pitcher/utility was nearly unstoppable at the plate, batting .818 (9-for-11) with three doubles, four home runs, including a grand slam, 17 RBI and seven runs scored. She slugged an eye-popping 2.182, recorded a 2.982 OPS and posted a pair of six-RBI efforts against Maryland and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Crown Point, Ind. native reached base by hit, walk or error in her first 12 plate appearances and the 17 RBI were just 10 shy of her entire 2019 total of 27. Elish, who was named Big 12 Player of the Week, was also 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA with 18 strikeouts to just two walks, while holding her opposition to a .140 average in 10 innings of work.

Yanez was sharp in her Oregon debut. The junior southpaw earned a win in all three appearances, posting a 0.50 ERA and striking out 25 to just two walks in 14 innings. Yanez allowed a run, scattered six hits and held her opponents to a .130 batting average. The Ventura, Calif. native fanned 17, including a stretch of nine in-a-row, in a complete-game victory over BYU. She became just the second Duck pitcher to strike out 17 without a walk in a program history.
