LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma State senior Vanessa Shippy and DePaul sophomore Missy Zoch were named Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their play during the opening week of the season.

Shippy put forth a tremendous performance at the Kajikawa Classic, reaching base in all but two plate appearances, as the 20th-ranked Cowgirls opened the season 4-1. She was 11-for-13 at the plate (.846) with two home runs, six RBI, nine runs scored and five walks. Shippy recorded a .895 on-base percentage and slugged 1.308.

The Coeur d’Alene, Idaho native could not have started any hotter, reaching base safely in her first nine plate appearances with six hits and three walks. Shippy the Big 12 Player of the Week, went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two walks in a season-opening win over then-No. 7 Arizona. She also added three hits, a home run and three RBI against Missouri, along with her second long ball, three runs and two RBI versus Western Michigan.

Zoch played a big role in DePaul’s 5-0 opening weekend. The right-handed hurler twirled three complete-game shutouts, including a no-hitter in her final start against Northern Colorado on Feb. 11. Zoch finished 4-0 with a 0.30 ERA, fanning 23 batters in 23.2 innings of work. She surrendered a run on nine hits and held her opponents to a .117 batting average.

In her no-hitter, Zoch fanned five and did not issue a free pass in a 2-0 victory. After the first batter reached on an error, she would retire the final 20 batter she faced as that runner was caught stealing to end the first. The Winchester, Texas native twirled shutouts against Eastern Kentucky (2H, 8 K, 1 BB) and Wright State (4 H, 7 K, 4 BB). Zoch was also tabbed BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her performance.
