LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Valdosta State’s Chloe Eichelberger and Glenville State’s Kylie Burdick earned Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors for contests played Feb. 16-22.
Eichelberger slashed .750/.778/2.000 keying the Blazers to a three-game sweep of Trevecca Nazarene in the Gulf South Conference’s opening weekend of league play. She was 6-for-8 at the plate with a double, three home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored. Eichelberger recorded the go-ahead two-run pinch-hit single in the seventh inning of the series opener. She homered twice in game two with three RBI and recorded three hits, a homer and two RBI in the series finale.
Burdick was 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA and 20 strikeouts last week for the Pioneers. She went the distance in both outings, including an eight-inning victory over Gannon in which she allowed a run on four hits with six punchouts and one walk. In her first start last weekend, Burdick twirled a five-hit shutout against Bowie State with 14 strikeouts and three walks.
The awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
