LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Montana State University Billings’ Teagan Seeton and Pittsburg State’s Ava Laurent earned this week’s Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors for games played March 4-10.
Over a five-day, eight-game stretch, Seeton batted .600 (15-for-25) with six home runs, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and a 1.320 slugging percentage. She homered twice and drove in five runs against Concordia-St. Paul (4-for-4, 3 runs) as it was part of five straight games leaving the yard. Seeton also clubbed round trippers against California (Pa.), Edinboro, St. Cloud State and game one at Western Oregon. The sophomore from Mesa, Ariz. went 3-for-3 with two runs scored against Cal (Pa.) and also had a three base knocks in a series finale win against the Wolves.
Laurent went the distance in all three starts last week, posting a 3-0 mark with a 0.00 ERA and two shutouts for the 13th-ranked Gorillas. The freshman hurler fanned 38 batters, walked two, posted a 0.67 WHIP and limited her opposition to a .162 batting average over 21 innings. Laurent began the week with a 10-strikeout shutout against Arkansas Tech. She punched out 14 batters in her next two appearances against Central Missouri and Lincoln, the latter a three-hit shutout.
The above awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
