LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Colorado Mesa’s Myah Arrieta & Charleston’s Brianna McCown were named 2023 Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The duo was recognized for their outstanding performances Feb. 27-March 5.
In a three-game sweep of Adams State, Arrieta hit .769 (10-for-13) with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, 11 runs scored and six RBI. She drew two walks, stole one base, slugged 1.692 and posted a .786 on-base percentage. In a game-two win on March 4, Arrieta matched a program record with five runs scored, while also homering and driving in four runs. She also went 4-for-5, finishing a long ball short of a cycle, with four runs scored in game one of the March 4 doubleheader. Arietta tripled, homered and scored twice in the series finale.
McCown was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, posting two shutouts and striking out 23 in 10 innings of work. She tossed a perfect game against Virginia Union with 11 punchouts. McCown followed that with a 12-strikeout, two-hit shutout of Virginia State.
The Division II weekly awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Committee.
