LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  University of Indianapolis’ Natalie Lalich and Henderson State’s Michelle Sorensen were selectedLouisville Slugger / NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, for their outstanding play during the week March 13-19, announced the Association on Wednesday afternoon.

Lalich had a monster week at the plate for the 10th-ranked Greyhounds (21-5), keying them to a perfect 8-0 week, including a 4-0 start in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play. The senior outfielder paced the squad with a .565 average (13-for-23), six extra-base hits, including four homers, and 16 RBI. One those dingers was of the walk-off variety in 10th-inning of UIndy’s home opener against Drury. A product of Greewood, Ind., Lalich also hit a three-run blast against Missouri S&T, attributing to her four-RBI outing the weekend finale against Missouri S&T. Additionally, she scored seven runs, walked five times and posted a .643 on-base percentage on her way to GLVC Player of the Week honors.

Sorensen highlighted a 3-0 week with a nine-inning, no-hitter against Southeastern Oklahoma State, the first extra-inning no-no in Great American Conference history. The junior from Sherwood, Ark., posted a 0.28 ERA, allowing two runs, one earned, with 32 strikeouts in 25 innings off work. Against the Savage Storm, she fanned 13, did not issue a walk and faced just three batters over the minimum in her second extra-inning complete game of the week and third in six days. Sorenson’s first extra-inning game of the week was a 10-inning outing against Arkansas Tech in which she struck out 13 in a 2-1 victory. That performance came less than 24 hours after tossing a GAC-record 19 innings and striking out 21 in a 3-2 win over the Golden Suns on March 12.
