LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Angelo State’s Courtney Barnhill and Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Emily Otto were named 2019 Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for games played Feb. 11-17.

Barnhill, a Lubbock, Texas native, was 11-for-16 (.686) at the plate with five doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI and nine runs scored over a four-game stretch. She drove in five runs on two occasions, launching a grand slam and scoring three runs against Adams State. 

In two Lone Star Conference (LSC) games at Eastern New Mexico, Barnhill was nearly perfect at the plate, going 8-for-9 with four doubles, a home run, nine RBI and five runs scored. She walked once, did not strikeout, recorded a .900 on-base percentage and slugged at a 1.667 clip. The junior outfielder was 3-for-4 in game two with a pair of double and five RBI. The LSC Player of the Week followed that with a 5-for-5 outing in the finale, doubling two more times with a long ball, four RBI and four runs scored.

Otto, a sophomore from Richmond, Texas, posted a 3-0 mark with a 0.37 ERA and tossed a no-hitter against Midwestern State. The southpaw struck out seven and walked two in her no-no versus the Mustangs. In the LSC opener, she held MSU Texas to just three hits with five punchouts in a complete-game shutout. Otto tossed a two-hitter in her first start of the week against then-No. 20 Arkansas Tech. For the week, the two-time LSC Pitcher of the Week fanned 18, walked three and held her opponents to five hits and a .079 batting average in 19 innings of work.
