LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Malone’s Bailey Byers and Grand Valley State’s Allison Lipovsky were named 2019 Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for games played -March 4-10.

Byers, a native of Alliance, Ohio, enjoyed a strong week at the plate, helping the Pioneers to a 5-3 mark at the PFX Spring Games. The sophomore catcher hit .483 with a double, triple, six home runs, 10 runs scored and 16 RBI during the eight-game stretch. She recorded at least one base knock in each contest, including five multi-hit games, and has started 2019 on a 10-game hitting streak. 

Slugging 1.207 for the week, Byers launched two homers and registered five RBI in a 7-4 win over Franklin Pierce. She also homered against Wayne State College, Concordia-St. Paul, Wheeling Jesuit and Nyack. The G-MAC Player of the Week recorded three hits against Seton Hill and scored three runs versus Wheeling Jesuit.

Lipovsky keyed the 10th-ranked Lakers to a 9-1 week over spring break. The senior righty was dominant over five starts, posting a 5-0 mark with a 1.00 ERA and 53 strikeouts to just five walks over 35 innings of work. Lipovsky, who hails from Harrison, Mich., fanned a season-high 15 batters in a two-hitter against Northern State. The GLIAC Pitcher of the Week also fanned 13 in a two-hit shutout of Wilmington and 10 in a 2-1 victory over Hillsdale.
