LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Samantha Reilly of Georgian Court slugged seven home runs and Dixie State’s Cambrie Hazel was unhittable, which earned them Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the week recognition. The duo earned the honor for their outstanding play for the week of April 2-8.
Reilly, a Toms River, N.J. native, hit .550 (11-for-20) with those seven long balls, two doubles, 12 RBI and 10 runs to help Georgian Court to a 5-1 mark last week. She slugged an eye-popping 1.700 as she doubled her season total of home runs to 14.
She began her week by going 4-for-7 with a home run in each contest, three RBI and three runs in a doubleheader sweep of University of the Sciences. In consecutive victories over Nyack and Goldey-Beacom, Reilly posted identical stat lines with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored. Reilly, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, capped off her monstrous stretch with her final round tripper, two RBI and three runs scored to help the Lions complete a sweep of the Lightning.
Hazel, who twirled two no-hitters and was part of a combined perfect game, did not allow a hit over 20.2 innings of work during the Trailblazers’ undefeated trip to California. Bookending the trip with no-hitter, the rookie hurler from Spanish Fork, Utah finished the week 3-0 with a save, 0.00 ERA, 25 strikeouts and four walks.
The four-time PacWest Player of the Week no-hit Cal State East Bay in the opener, striking out seven and walking two. The Pioneers managed a run off Hazel, but the Trailblazers held on for the 2-1 win. She shut down East Bay in the seventh inning of game two to earn her fourth save of the season. In her final start of the week, Hazel fanned 14 and walked two in an eight-inning complete-game no-no over Dominican. In Hazel’s other victory, she tossed four perfect innings with three punchouts, combining with Madi Dove for the perfect game.
