LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Angelo State’s Keilei Garcia and Georgian Court’s Mikayla Gilgert were named Louisville Slugger / NFCA Player of the Week and Wilson / NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. They were recognized for their outstanding performances in contests played during the week of April 5-11.

Over a four-game stretch, Garcia hit .700 (7-for-10) with a double, four home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored. She slugged 2.000, reached base at a .769 clip and did not strike out in 13 plate appearances. Garcia homered in her first three games of the week, including two in game one against Texas Woman’s University. She finished that contest, 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs scored and a walk. The freshman catcher capped off her stellar week with a walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Rambelles over Pioneers in the nightcap. Garcia homered in each win over Midwestern State as she drove in three runs and scored twice in the opener.

Gilgert put forth a strong showing in leading the Lions to five wins last week. The junior righty went 4-0 with a 0.77 ERA and one save. She struck out 42 and walked just two batters over 27.1 innings of work. After picking up a win in which she surrendered three runs against University of the Sciences, Gilgert finished off the week by shutting out her opponents over the final 22.1 innings. She twirled three complete-game shutouts with double-digit strikeouts in each outing, fanning a season-high 13 against Chestnut Hill. Hailing from Queen Creek, Ariz., Gilgert also earned a save with 1.1 innings of perfect relief (3 strikeouts) versus Concordia (N.Y.).
