LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Columbus State’s Hannah Rose Corbin and Valdosta State’s Samantha Richards were named the Louisville Slugger / NFCA Player and Wilson / NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. They were recognized for their outstanding performances in contests played during the week of Feb. 22-28.

Corbin powered CSU to four wins with her bat and her arm last week. The sophomore hit .700 with a triple, four home runs and seven RBI. She drew seven walks, which attributed to her .824 on-base percentage, and  slugged 2.100. In the circle, Corbin went 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA and eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. She homered twice, including a grand slam, and drove in five in a game-one victory over Miles. 

In the nightcap, Corbin homered again, drew three free passes and scored three times. Her final long ball of the week came in game two of a doubleheader sweep of Shorter. The right-handed hurler went the distance in game one against the Hawks, allowing a pair of runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Corbin earned the win in relief of game two, getting the final out in the top of the seventh and helping her cause in the bottom half with a leadoff single.

Richards was pivotal in a three-game Gulf South Conference series sweep of Mississippi College. The sophomore righty was 2-0 with a 0.48 ERA and a save in 14.2 innings of work. She surrendered two runs, one earned, on five hits with 17 strikeouts and just one walk. Richards, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., fanned nine in the series opener, allowing an unearned run and two hits in the complete-game effort. She struck out six more in a six-inning game-three triumph. Richards earned the save in game two with 1.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief. She struck out two in the 8-5 victory.
