LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Berry’s Morgan Frye and Randolph-Macon’s Gracie Ellis claimed the latest 2023 Division III Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Frye, a junior first baseman from Suwanee, Ga., batted .857 in the first two games of the Southern Athletic Association tournament, with five runs, two doubles, a home run, four runs batted in and four stolen bases in four attempts. She also walked once and was retired just once in the two victories over Millsaps. Her homer, the 27th of her career, set the Vikings’ program record.
Ellis, meanwhile, earned her second national honor in the last four weeks for the No. 12 Yellow Jackets. The sophomore right-hander pitched a perfect game last Tuesday at Ferrum, striking out 12 of the 21 batters she faced, which was her second-straight start allowing zero hits. She then won both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday at Guilford to finish the week 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA, two complete games, no walks and 23 strikeouts over 16 innings.
