Developing a Routine
The first thing a coach or parent should consider in working with young baseball players is to establish a routine. The young players who are to be discussed can be in high school or college. The structure of going to school offers its own type of routine. In the minor leagues, one of the first things we do is establish a routine with our players, one that they can do at all levels up to the majors. At the lower levels we have more control. The players basically come in with a clean slate as far as training is concerned. Within the Blue Jay organization, we have interns at every level who implement the strength and conditioning program. This routine we have developed through our experience has been proven to work, and everyone knows what is expected throughout the season.
