Type: drill

Purpose: This drill improves reaction time to spot balls and it pushes them to expand their defensive range. The drill also trains the player’s mind to be ready to move quickly in any direction from her defensive position.

Explanation: Defensive player stands at her normal position (2B, CF, whatever) with six numbered cones around her in a wide circle.

Player does quick feet (in place) until coach yells number. Player runs to the cone with the number yelled by the coach, sprinting through the cone as if running for a pop fly or ground ball.
