Type: drill
Purpose: This drill is designed to put pressure on defense.
Name of Drill: Perfect Plays
This drill is designed to put pressure on the defense. You can do this drill a certain number of times or for a period of time.
You have a player at each defensive position. You will have the pitcher pitch while a coach is at the plate ready to put a ball in play. You then let the team know the situation: for example, a runner on first no outs: If the bunt is placed down, how are the corners reacting, is the pitcher moving, is the second baseman covering first, who is covering second and third, are the outfielders backing up the correct base? When the pitch is made, the coach will then hit the ball to a position or area looking to see a specific result. If there is a physical or mental error there are consequences. If there is more than one error then you can double, triple, ect. the consequences. It can range from sprints, crunches, jumping jacks, pushups, ect. for the whole team. You can decide to have them done immediately or total them and do them at the end of the drill. You can also make it more individual than team by replacing the one who makes the error and sits out till someone else makes an error. You can also reward the defense if they get so may in row or a great play.
You can also put runners at the bases to add more pressure and a game feel. This also allows the runners to work on baserunning skills.
