Type: drill

Purpose: to improve players’ aggressiveness and reaction time, while also working on sacrificing their body to knock down a ball.

Explanation: Players are dividied into pairs: Player 1 is positioned be- tween the front two cones, and Player 2 between the back two cones. each pair gets 10 challenging ground balls hit at them and their goal is to stop as many as possible without the ball getting beyond the back cones. If players dive for balls, they need to get up quickly, as the next ball is coming right away. Once they get a ball in their glove, they toss it off to the side. If the coach hits a ball outside the cones, they get an additional ball. Go two rounds so each player has an opportunity to be in the front and the back. You can widen your cones based on the ability level of your players.

Our players LOVE this drill, including our outfielders. It gets VERY competitive.
