Purpose:
This is a long scrimmage game. We play this game as a reward at the end of practice. It encourages line drive hitting, bunting, aggressive fielding. This game can be played with live pitching or a pitching machine.

Explanation:
Lay out the "box" in the infield as shown. The first team plays a full infield, but no outfielders. The second team bats. The team on offense can swing away or bunt. The batter hits the ball and runs through first base. Any ball bunted into the target area scores one run. Any ball batted across the front of the box scores one run. Any ball batted across the back line of the box scores two runs.

The defense makes outs by either throwing the runner out at first or catching fly balls. Any runs scored count, even if the runner is thrown out. Runs do not count if the ball is caught in the air. When three outs are made, the sides switch.

This drill encourages aggressive fielding as the defense must charge the ball to prevent runs being scored. There are no walks. Strikeouts are optional.
