LOUISVILLE, Ky. – San Joaquin Delta (North) and Fullerton College (South) were voted by their peers as 2024 ATEC/NFCA Cal JC Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year, the Association announced on Wednesday afternoon.
To be eligible, the program’s head coach must be a member and winners were voted by member head coaches in each of their respective regions. The National Coaching Staff of the Year will be announced on May 21 following the conclusion of the 2024 3C2A State Championship Tournament, May 16-19, hosted by West Valley College.
Regional Winners
North – San Joaquin Delta
Head Coach: Jim Fisher
Assistant Coaches: Quincey Noble, Chris Anklam, Jeff Borges, Terry Fisher, Vanessa Contreras
Jim Fisher was named 3C2A North Coach of the Year after leading San Joaquin Delta to a 34-4 overall record, a Big 8 Conference title and a No. 3 state ranking. The Mustangs, who have won 10 straight and 25 of their last 26, earned the North’s No. 1 overall seed after a 22-2 mark in league play. Fisher and his staff oversaw a pitching staff that recorded 14 shutouts (3rd), a 1.37 ERA (4th), 1.01 WHIP (t-6th) and surrendered just two home runs (t-4th) in 249.2 innings. Offensively, Delta was sixth in total bases (492), seventh in slugging (.475), seventh in home runs (18), ninth in extra-base hits (93) and triples (16).
South – Fullerton College
Co-Head Coaches: Crystal Aguirre & Marian Mendoza
Assistant Coaches: Celina Gonzalez, Ru Andrade
Crystal Aguirre and Marian Mendoza were named South Coaches of the Year. The duo, along with assistants Celina Gonzalez and Ru Andrade, guided the Hornets to an undefeated run through Orange Empire play (21-0), a 36-4 overall record and the No. 1 ranking in the state. Fullerton’s pitching staff owns to 3C2A’s lowest ERA (1.25) and WHIP (.80), is second in batting average against (.177) and fifth in shutouts (13). On the offensive side of the ball, they are first in triples (20), fourth in hits and fifth in batting average (.362).
