LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc. revealed the nine inaugural recipients of 2023 Cal JC Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, presented by the NFCA, on Thursday afternoon.
Palomar College sophomore India Caldwell, announced earlier Thursday as the 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Pitcher of the Year, leads the winners, who are being recognized as the best defensive players at their respective positions in Cal JC for the 2023 season.
Caldwell’s batterymate and Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year, sophomore Ellison Hazlett, is the logical choice to also be the Rawlings recipient, while sophomore first baseman Allyson Amato gives the Comets three Gold Glove honorees.
Mt. San Antonio College is the other school with multiple award winners, as second baseman Asia Chacon and third baseman Janis Espinoza both earned honors.
Sacramento City College sophomore shortstop Eliza Deatherage rounds out the infield, while Riverside City College freshman Alyssa Carlisle, Sierra College sophomore Kayley Vaillette and Orange Coast College sophomore Emilie Lapena are the Gold Glove outfielders from left to right.
Recipients of the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, presented by the NFCA, were selected by a full NFCA Cal JC membership vote following regional voting to identify the finalists at each position. The group utilized fielding statistics and school-submitted video to closely examine finalists and select the winners at every defensive position. Any student-athlete that competed in the current championship year and was nominated by their head coach who is a member in good standing with the NFCA was eligible for consideration for this prestigious accolade.
