Streakin'
Oregon State boasts the nation's longest current winning streak, winning 22 consecutive including a school record 7-0 start in Pac-10 play. Brianne McGowan led the Beavers to a 4-0 mark last week including a win over Arizona. McGowan struck out 30 batters and has recorded a win in 21 consecutive appearances.
At the Beach
Lacy Tyler helped Long Beach State take its series (2-1) at Pacific last weekend
after posting a .556 batting average, three-home runs, one double, and 8
RBI. In G1 (4/9), Tyler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI
including a grand slam en route to the 11-2 LBSU victory in five innings.
Tyler went 1-for-3 with a three-run HR in the third inning of Game 3 to lift The
Beach to an 11-3 win.
Hudson's Big Week
Amy Hudson had a big week for the Central Michigan University Chippewas last week as CMU went 4-1, including a 5-4 victory over No. 1-ranked Michigan. The freshman hit .529 with a hit in all five games and a slugging percentage of .882. She was 9-for-17 with seven RBI and seven runs scored. She also notched three doubles and a homer. In fact, Hudson either scored or drove in 13 of CMU's 21 runs to be directly involved in 62 percent of CMU's scoring last week. In the victory over No. 1 Michigan, Hudson was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. She led off all three innings she made a plate appearance that game and she scored every time, including the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. In the 5-3 win over Toledo in the series finale, she drove in four of CMU's five runs.
Ivy Lifts Fordham
Ivy Pollock helped the Rams to their first ever wins over UMass (0-for-23 before Monday), as Fordham was just the third team ever to sweep a conference doubleheader from the Minutewomen, while being the first to mercy rule them in a conference game.
She had four multi-hit games, including tying a career-high with four hits in game two versus UMass, as well as a .545 OB% and .571 SLG%.
Since the start of Atlantic 10 play on 3/25, Pollock has had a complete turnaround, improving her batting average from .184 to .326 on the year.
She has helped the Rams to 20-10 record thus far, and the team stands in first place in the Atlantic 10 with an 8-0 mark.
Ore at FIU
Tiffany Ore broke two school records during FIU?s 5-0 victory in game two of Saturday?s doubleheader at North Texas. Ore started the game by striking out the first 12 batters she faced (breaking FIU?s previous best consecutive strikeouts streak by three) and went on to finish the game with 17 K?s, also a new program-best. The 17 strikeouts broke the record of 16 set by Leah Barnes in 2001, while the 12-consecutive K?s toppled one of the program?s longest-standing records of nine, set by Erin McCutcheon during FIU?s first season of softball back on April 18, 1998. Ore finished the week with a 2-0 record, a 0.50 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 14 innings of work. At the plate, she batted .333 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in two games. She leads the team with 153 strikeouts in 99.2 innings on the season.
