Tyler, Texas — Runs flowed in abundance on Friday’s second day of the NCAA Division III Championship at Texas-Tyler’s Suddenlink Field, with a combined 36 players crossing the plate in the session’s four games. The two teams that pitched the best were rewarded with a much-welcomed day off.

NFCA first team All-America pitchers Rachel Johnson of Salisbury and Allyson Fournier of defending titlist Tufts made sure their squads didn’t have to face one of the nation’s top offenses again until Sunday. Johnson tossed a four-hitter and fanned 10 in the (41-3) Sea Gulls’ 5-0 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater, while Fournier faced all but two batters and struck out eight in the (43-3) Jumbos’ 5-2 triumph over Montclair State.

Harley Hill had three hits for Salisbury, which scored its second straight shutout and will now play the winner of Saturday’s 5 p.m. ET elimination game between St. Thomas and Montclair State on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Mimi Ramirez and Laura Eichenold collected two hits apiece in the loss for the (38-11) Warhawks.

Division III home run leader Jo Clair (23 homers) hit a two-run shot in the fourth to help give the Jumbos an opportunity to await the victor of Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. ET elimination contest between East Texas Baptist and Wisconsin-Whitewater. Dana Amato (homer, RBI) and Jaclyn Allegretta (single, RBI) accounted for much of the offense for the (41-7) Red Hawks. Tufts next competes 3:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

St. Thomas 9, Rochester 1 (5 innings)

Second team All-American Brenna Walek got the (42-7) Tommies off to a quick start with a first-inning grand slam and St. Thomas added four more runs in the second en route to a run-rule shortened victory. Katie Jo Delisle pitched a complete-game five-hitter.

Third team All-American Tayler Fravel doubled home the (32-13) Yellowjackets’ lone run in their season finale.

East Texas Baptist 11, Trine 3 (5 innings)

Third team All-American Jayme Perez hit a leadoff homer, Alyssa Romero blasted her second homer in two games and the (44-9) Tigers never looked back in a run-shortened triumph.

Rachel Harris and Amy Newell hit homers in the season finale for the (42-5) Thunder.
