Female athletes possess traits desirable for leadership positions — competitiveness, teamwork, work ethic and confidence—and are well suited for the business world. However, studies also show female athletes struggle in transition from playing careers to business careers as being an athlete has become their main identify their entire lives.

USA Elite Select is excited about its “Stay in the Game” seminar on July 11, one of a selection of educational seminars for young players and their parents offered by the organization at its inaugural World Fastpitch Championship for 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U age groups in July in Overland Park, Kan.

The July 11 event features women who played softball at the highest level and competed for championships, who now utilize their sports background and character traits to pursue a career in not only the sport industry, but specifically the sport of softball.

The panel includes Amanda Scarborough, a former Texas A&M player and current ESPN analyst and member of The Packaged Deal clinic team; Francesca Enea, a former Florida player and current marketing manager for Easton Baseball/Softball; Jami Lobpries, Ph.D., a former Texas A&M player and current vice president, of USA Elite Select; Juliana Forero Becerra, a Columbia national team member and vice president, PWH; Lauren Chamberlain, a former Oklahoma player and current USSSA Pride player; Megan Willis, a former Texas player and current Longhorn Network analyst and USSSA Pride assistant coach; and Samantha Ricketts, a former Oklahoma player and current Mississippi State and USSSA Pride assistant coach.

“With the rise of college softball on television and the growing youth sport participation numbers, numerous jobs present themselves for female athletes in sport and particularly the game of softball,” Lobpries said in announcing the seminar. “These panelists are living proof of the opportunities that exist for female athletes.”

“We are excited to show these athletes role models who have successfully made the transition from athlete to sport business professional. It’s important to have more female leaders, voices, and decision makers in sports and we want to use our platform to educate young athletes on how to do this.”
