LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Six-time reigning Louisiana state champion Calvary Baptist Academy was voted by its fellow members as the 2025-26 ATEC/NFCA High School National Coaching Staff of the Year, the Association revealed on Friday afternoon.
Calvary Baptist went 37-1 in 2026 and finished the season ranked third in the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, trailing only fellow one-loss school and six-time Alabama state titlist Orange Beach (46-1) at No. 2 and undefeated first-time Kentucky state champ South Warren (45-0) — which dealt Orange Beach its only loss — in the top spot. This is the third straight season that Calvary Baptist has finished ranked in the top three in the NFCA rankings, after closing both 2024 and 2025 in the No. 2 position.
Led by head coach Tiffany Wood and assistants Greg Frazier, Harold Johnson and Jessica Gann, the Cavaliers were previously honored July 24 as one of eight 2026 ATEC/NFCA Spring High School Regional Coaching Staff of the Year winners. This season’s state championship was the school’s eighth overall.
Wood won her 400th career game in this year’s state final, a 5-1 triumph over Parkview Baptist on May 3. All of her victories have come in the Calvary Baptist dugout.
The Cavaliers, who finished first in the MaxPreps national high school rankings, defeated seven teams that went on to win state titles in 2026: Arkansas’ Bentonville, Texas’ Bullard, and Quitman, Riverside Academy, North DeSoto, Pineville and Hahnville in Louisiana. Calvary dominated those opponents by a 57-7 margin and outscored teams 391-36 overall this spring.
Two-time NFCA All-America pitcher Kynzee Anderson won the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, finishing her varsity career (which started in the seventh grade) with 129 wins. She was 30-1 this year, with a 0.61 ERA, 318 strikeouts, six no-hitters and 18 games with 10 or more strikeouts.
Anderson fanned 16 batters in a 2-1 victory over Arkansas powerhouse Bentonville on March 4. She also helped herself on offense this season with three homers and 25 RBI.
Sophomore shortstop Baylor Bockhaus joined Anderson as an NFCA All-American this season for the Cavaliers. She already has 61 homers for her career, including one in this year’s state final.
The other nine regional winners in the running for national honors were Missouri’s Chillicothe (Region I), Oklahoma’s Guthrie (Region II), Idaho’s Owyhee (Region III), California’s Kimball (Region IV), Illinois’ Antioch (Region V), North Carolina’s West Stanly (Region VII), Ohio’s Kenton Ridge (Region VIII), Pennsylvania’s Abington Heights (Region IX) and Connecticut’s Cheshire (Region X).
All 10 regional winners were chosen in a vote of NFCA member head coaches in their respective region. The national honoree was determined by a vote of all head coaches. To be eligible for regional or national Coaching Staff of the Year recognition, a school’s head coach must be an NFCA member and nominated.
