Addison Forde, Valley’s (Iowa) Mack Mohler and Ketchikan’s (Alaska) Mylee Gray captured this week’s MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Spring Player of the Week honors. Koziak garnered East Region honors after a stellar performance in last Wednesday’s victory over Thomaston. She fanned 16 and allowed four hits, two walks and no runs over seven innings of work for the Falcons, who have won 13 of their last 14 and play Hale Ray today in the Connecticut Class S state semifinals.
In the North, Rainford registered 39 strikeouts over three games and 21 innings, allowing just six hits and two walks in that span for the Spartans. She fanned more batters with each successive start last week, striking out 12 against Westville, 13 versus Riverton Parke and 14 against Southwood.
Meanwhile, Forde was the South winner after a week during which she hit .857 (6-for-7) with seven runs, three homers, five RBI, a walk and no strikeouts for the Bruins. The junior was 4-for-4 with all three longballs, four runs and five RBI last Monday versus Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology, then added two hits and three more runs on Thursday against South County.
Mohler was the choice in the South Central, going 7-for-10 (.700) for the Spartans. She homered in three straight contests over two days to fill out a four-game stretch, and was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI in her final game of the week against Jefferson on Saturday.
In the West, Gray hit .727 (8-for-11) with 11 runs, a double, two triples, a homer, six RBI, three walks and no strikeouts for the Kings. The senior was 4-for-4 with four runs, both of her triples and two RBI versus Kenai Central in the first of three games on Friday.
