LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Behind two no hitters and an overall dominating pitching performance, sophomore Tori Kniesche of Wayne (Neb.) High School earned MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week honors for games played Sept. 4-10.
Opposing offenses had a tough time figuring out Kniesche, who went 5-0 last week, as she recorded four shutouts in five starts, added two one-hitters to her resume and struck out 69 in 30 innings of work. Kniesche twirled her first no-no of the week on Sept. 7 against Tekamah-Herman. She fanned 12 and walked four in a 6-0 victory. Two starts later, on Sept. 9, she no-hit David City/East Butler in a five-inning contest, striking out 13.
The right-hand hurler bookended her week with a pair of one-hit shutouts. Kniesche struck out 11 and walked one in a 9-0 (5 inn.) win over Lakeview and closed out the week with a week-best 18 punchouts during a 2-0 victory against Plattsmouth. Offensively, she registered seven hits, two doubles and three RBI, which included a 3-for-3, two RBI performance against Tekamah-Herman.
