LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Texas heads into the NCAA Division I postseason, not only as the No. 1 overall championship seed, but also the top team in the final 2024 USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll of the regular season. The Longhorns fell to new-No. 2 Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, but maintained their hold on No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week.
Texas thumped Texas Tech and RV Baylor on its way to a second straight Big 12 championship game after not playing in it since 2005. The defeat at the hands of the Sooners snapped the Longhorns’ 18-game win streak, tied for the third longest in program history.
OU moved back to No. 2 following its ninth Big 12 tourney crown. During their tournament run, the Sooners, which are the No. 2 overall NCAA seed, outscored Kansas, BYU and Texas by a combined 28-4.
One week after its first regular-season title, Duke doubled up with its first-ever tournament championship. The Blue Devils (46-6) moved into the No. 4 spot sandwiched around No. 3 Tennessee and No. 5 Oklahoma State. The Lady Vols (40-10) and the Cowgirls (44-10) also earned the NCAA’s No. 3 and 5 overall seeds, while Duke was 10th.
Pac-12 and Southeastern Conference tournament champions UCLA and Florida follow at No. 6 and No. 7 in the rankings. With three victories apiece, the Bruins (37-10) earned the double, their first tournament title, while the Gators (46-12) collected their sixth tourney crown, tied for the most in league history.
Following No. 8 Stanford and No. 9 Texas A&M, SEC tournament runner-up Missouri takes over at No. 10. It was the Tigers’ (43-15) third title game appearance and second in three seasons.
No. 22 Boston University (53-4-1), the lone 50-game winner in NCAA Division I, collected the Patriot league double.
Poll newcomers No. 24 Miami and No. 25 Texas State picked up the Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt Conference Tournament championships. The RedHawks (48-7), who also won the MAC regular season, swept through the tourney for their third straight title and are in the NFCA’s Top 25 for the first time in program history. The Bobcats (45-13), entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and knocked off new-No. 20 Louisiana in the championship tilt.
