LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time in program history, Cal State San Marcos holds the No. 1 spot in the NFCA/GoRout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. Combined with the Cougar’s 12-1 start and previous-No.1 Auburn University at Montgomery suffering its first two losses of the season, San Marcos moved into the poll position.
The Cougars, who did not play last week, are riding a 10-game winning streak with the pitching staff playing a pivotal role in the early-season success. San Marcos hurlers have posted a 0.83 ERA, recorded five shutouts and not surrendered more than three runs in a contest. The offense has also stepped up, scoring six or more runs in 10 games.
Cal State East Bay, also idle last week, improved to No. 2. The 14-1 Pioneers have won 13 straight and take on No. 16 Concordia on Wednesday (Feb. 25) before heading to the West Region Crossover, which also includes the top-ranked Cougars.
Moving into the No. 3 position is West Texas A&M (15-4), who split with then-No. 15 Oklahoma Christian and swept Cameron in Lone Star Conference (LSC) action. AUM dipped to No. 4 after it dropped two-of-three at home to West Alabama in the Gulf South Conference’s opening weekend.
A pair of Southeast Region programs come in next as a red-hot North Georgia (13-2) is on a 12-game game win streak and moved into the fifth spot, while Francis Marion (12-3) stayed put at No.6.
No. 7 West Florida catapulted into the top 10 from No. 12. The Argos (14-2) swept Christian Brothers in Gulf South action. No. 8 Angelo State (15-4), No. 9 Missouri Southern (17-3) and No. 10 Southern Arkansas (15-2) make up the rest of the top ten.
UIndy, off to a 10-0 start, rose to No. 11, while Saint Leo (10-2-1) also climbed several spots to No. 15 after a three-game sweep of then-No. 4 Tampa in its first Sunshine State Conference series of 2026. The Spartans (4-5) dropped out of the poll.
Three programs – No. 21 Carson-Newman (13-1), No. 23 Pittsburg State (17-0) and No. 24 University of Alabama in Huntsville (17-3) - made their way into the top 25 after receiving votes last week.
In addition to Tampa, Kutztown (3-3) and Montevallo (12-3) also dropped out of the top 25.
The 2026 NFCA/GoRout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee. The committee consists of 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA’s eight regions. The poll is announced every Tuesday at noon ET during the regular season.
