LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has revealed the 2023 NFCA Division II All-Region teams. This year’s squads are comprised of 204 student-athletes from 112 programs.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted for the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2023 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
University of Texas at Tyler out of the South Central Region led the way with six honorees, three of which earned first-team nods.
Five programs – Augustana University (Central), Colorado Christian University (South Central), Grand Valley State University (Midwest), University of Central Oklahoma (Central) and University of Indianapolis (Midwest) – took home five plaudits apiece. The Lakers topped all programs with four first teamers, while the Bronchos and Greyhounds had three each. The Cougars and Vikings captured two, respectivey.
There were five more institutions – Mississippi College (South), Lubbock Christian (South Central), Sonoma State University (West), West Texas A&M University (South Central) and Wilmington University (East) – that captured four honors. Three student-athletes from the Lady Choctaws and Lady Buffs earned first-team nods, while the Seawolves and Wildcats posted two apiece.
University of Alabama in Huntsville out of the South Region was the other program on the list with three on the first team.
In the Atlantic Region, University of Charleston led the way with three honorees, two on the first team. Shepherd University and Mercyhurst University joined UC with two first teamers.
Columbus State University and University of North Georgia topped the Southeast Region with three recognitions. The NightHawks, along with King University, each had a pair of first-team accolades.
The Lone Star Conference was top of the board with 18 All-Region recognitions, followed by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and Gulf South Conference with 17 apiece. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and California Collegiate Athletic Association had 14 representatives, while the South Atlantic Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference were represented by 12 student-athletes each.
Conference players and pitchers of the year from member institutions (must be nominated by member head coach and receive votes) are added to the second team if they were not already voted to an All-Region squad.
The 2023 NFCA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 24 at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet in Chattanooga, Tenn.
