LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tusculum’s Danielle Jason and Southern Arkansas’ Brinson Rogers captured Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors for contests played Feb. 3-9.
Over six games last week, Jason batted .762 with 16 hits, 17 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. She recorded four RBI, four doubles, a triple and three walks, while reaching base at a .792 clip and slugging 1.048. Against Converse she was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two stolen bases. She also notched three hits against Lees-McRae (twice) and Barton. Jason swiped three bases twice and scored four runs versus Lees-McRae.
Rogers was pivotal in the Muleriders’ 4-1 showing at the Alvy Early Memorial Invitational last weekend. The senior from Statesboro, Ga. posted a 3-0 mark with wins against Central Missouri, Northeastern State and Emporia State, posting two complete-game shutouts against the latter two and tossing six scoreless innings against Central Missouri. She twirled a one-hitter versus Northeastern State with 10 strikeouts and fanned 12 versus UCM. Rogers finished the weekend, 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 30 strikeouts in addition to holding opponents to a .150 batting average.
The awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
