LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma Baptist’s Ally Ryan and Charleston’s Brianna MCown took home this week’s Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors for games played April 1-7. It marks the second nod for McCown, while Ryan is the second straight Bison to nab a weekly honor.
In a three-game sweep at Southwestern Oklahoma State, Ryan batted .556, launched four home runs, slugged 1.889 and recorded eight RBI. Her four long balls last weekend lifted Ryan’s season total to 15, a new single-season record in OBU’s Division II era. Riding a six-game hitting streak and leading the Great American Conference in round trippers, the sophomore homered in each contest, sending two over the fence with four RBI in game two. With the selection, she joins teammate Kayleigh Jones, who captured pitcher of the week honors last week.
McCown went 4-0 last week for the 13th-ranked Golden Eagles, making two starts and two relief appearances in a pair of Mountain East Conference doubleheaders. The senior hurler posted a 0.35 ERA, surrendered a run on nine hits, struck out 27 and walked one in 20 innings of work. McCown recorded a pair of shutouts and held her opposition to a .128 batting average. She fanned 11 and took a perfect game into the seventh against Davis & Elkins. In her other start of the weekend at West Virginia Wesleyan, McCown struck out 12, allowed three hits and did not issue a walk.
The above awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
