LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Berry’s JJ Sweat and Texas Lutheran’s Serena Gonzalez earned the final Division III Wilson/NFCA Pitcher and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week honors of the 2026 season, the Association announced on Tuesday.
Freshman right-hander Sweat tossed two shutouts to help propel Berry to its fifth straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament title over the weekend. The Dallas, Ga., native threw a three-hitter in the Vikings’ 3-0 championship-clinching victory over top seed Trinity on Sunday to secure SAA tournament Most Valuable Player honors. That followed Friday’s two-hitter and nine strikeouts in Berry’s 1-0 triumph over Southwestern.
Gonzalez, meanwhile, became the first player to hit two home runs in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championship game last Monday in the Bulldogs’ 8-1 victory over Ozarks. The senior designated player from Corpus Christi, Texas, got her team on the scoreboard first with a first-inning RBI single, then singled again in the third, and homered in both the fifth and the sixth. The All-Tournament Team selection scored twice and drove in four runs in the contest as the Bulldogs won their record 10th SCAC tournament crown and 22nd conference title overall.
