Type: drill

Purpose: Allow players to hit fungo to one another to improve bat control and simultaneously giving fielders ground ball reps.

This is a drill I use to do a lot when I did not have a staff of coaches. The drill helped not only hitters but allowed our infielders to get a lot of ground balls. Hitting fungo teaches hitters to control the bat and is great for their hands. Fielders were of course challenged because the hits varied depending upon the hitter's ability.

They get in groups of 3 and rotate from catcher to hitter to fielder. We had four groups on the dieamond all spaced so as to have as much room as possible. We would usually do about 3 sets of 10-15. The infielders were required to make good throws or it did not count. All of our hitters got better at fungo as time went on and learned how to control their hits so that they could challenge each other.
