A fun game-like scrimmage that also provides for conditioning and pressure situations.

Name of Drill: 3 up, 3 down

Purpose: A fun game-like scrimmage that also provides for conditioning and pressure situations.

Explanation: A coach is the pitcher in this game-like scrimmage between two complete teams. The players are set in a standard lineup, and they hit off the coach. There are no screens, so the coach must have the reaction time to "get out of the way." If the coach can throw pitches, that makes it even more competitive.

(When Hawai'i played Tennessee, Coolen moved up to 38 feet and threw a rise, and it worked out well to give his hitters an idea of what it would be like facing Monica Abbott.)

You play a full game and go until you are completely through both lineups. When the last batter of each inning comes up, the offensive team members have their gloves ready and should be able to sprint on the field as soon as the last out is made. You play everything live
