Type: drill

Objective: The objective is for players to hit the cutoff and relay the ball home without a bad throw.

Set Up: Place a fielder in the outfield and give designated num- bers to players who are the cutoffs. The cutoffs are spread 15 yards between each other (see diagram below).

Execution: Hit a ball to the outfielder. While the ball is hit, the catcher calls the number of a relay player (ex. x1, x2, x3, etc. in diagram below. Mix the types of balls hit to the outfielder between fly balls, line drives and ground balls. The outfielder fields the ball and throws to the accurate relay person. Rotate after three balls are fielded and thrown accurately. The relay player becomes the catcher upon completion. With five or six players, this drill takes about 10 minutes.
