Type: drill
Purpose: This drill is set up to have each player concentrate mentally on fielding ground balls. It is a great drill to do after your players have warmed up and to start the practice off with.
Explanation: Have players partner up with one another and have them get around 20 feet away from their partner. The drill is a series of seven different components of five repetitions of each series.
The player receiving the ball has no glove and one hand behind her back. Her partner rolls her the ball; she fields it and throws it back. Make sure they field it out front.
The player receiving the ball has no glove and uses both hands. Her partner rolls her the ball; she fields it and throws it back. Talk about having soft hands.

The player rolling the ball now rolls the ball to the players left side (make them work, roll it a distance that challenges them). Field the ball and throw it back. Be quick to the ball.
The player rolling the ball rolls the ball to the player’s right (make her work, roll it a distance that challenges her). Field the ball and throw it back. Be quick to the ball.
The player rolling the ball, now throws a short hop. Have soft hands.
The player rolling the ball throws a slow roller. Be quick to ball and have a good flip.
We always stress on seeing the palms and having your hands below your knees. We also stress on having a perfect throw each time. This drill should only take 10 minutes. After you go through once, the players then change roles.
