Rocket Relays is a competitive relay drill that involves everyone on the team.

Equipment Needed:
Balls, cones.

Purpose:
Competitive relay drill.

Explanation:
This is a competitive team drill!

Outfielders are lined up in the outfield five to 10 yards apart from each other in a straight line. Middle infielders are paired with an outfielder 20-25 yards away. Catchers, pitchers and corner players are grouped with an outfielder/middle infield pair (20-25 yards away) to form a team of three.

Each outfielder has three balls directly behind her, approximately five yards away. On the coach's signal, each outfielder sprints to her first ball and relays it to her middle infielder, who then throws it to the third member of her team.

Upon release of the ball, the outfielder goes back and retrieves the second ball to the middle infielder and then the third ball. After each outfielder makes a throw to the middle infielder, she must come back to the starting cone and then go after the next ball.

The last group to successfully relay all three balls to the end of the line is out! Line up the balls and repeat. Again, the last group to complete the relay/cut is out. If a throw is missed at any time, that group is out.

In the end, you will have the "best group" (and the quickest group) of the day in Rocket Relays. Teams love this drill because of its competitive nature.
