Purpose: Softball golf is a unique, fun, competitive game to help kids with proper contact point tee work and provide a relief to routine practices.
Explanation: We set up nine tees and nine nets all over our athletic complex (covers softball, baseball, soccer fields). each tee has a cor- responding net which is the “golf” hole. Tees are varied in set-up, so hitter is swinging at pitches inside, outside, middle, high, low, etc. next to each tee is a bucket of softballs. The nets are also varied in relation to the tee and are about 20-30 yards away from tee.Tees set up for the hitter for a outside pitch have the net set up in the right center gap location, inside pitch has the net in left center gap location, etc. Some nets may be set up very low looking for the hitter to hit a ground ball. all other tees require a line drive into the net.
Hitters rotate through tees on the course. We start a group of hitters at each tee.“Strokes “ are counted by the number of swings needed to hit a ball off the tee into appropriate net.
After nine “holes,” the lowest cumulative stroke count is declared the winner. Sometimes we group the kids into teams and have mini-team competitions.
