This is a great drill for catchers. It helps work on the first explosive move from the box, be it a dive for the ball or exploding out to field a bunt or back-up first base.

Equipment Needed:
Catcher's equipment, balls, bat and a home plate.

Purpose:
This is a great drill for catchers. It helps work on the first explosive move from the box, be it a dive for the ball or exploding out to field a bunt or back-up first base. Also, the catchers love this drill due to the challenge and the fact that they get to get dirty.

Explanation:
The catcher sets up behind the plate in full gear and in a receiving stance. On command, the catcher dives either forward, toward the foul lines or back to the sides, imitating catching a shallow popped-up ball. She can then progress to diving after a tossed ball by the coach and eventually to a lightly-tapped pop-up off the bat.
