Purpose: This Drill is designed to practice infield play in a quick, efficient manner with lots of communication and crisp play being the paramount goals.

Explanation: As a note, please don't be hesitant to get your pitchers playing a corner when you are doing mass infield drills. She is an infielder and needs to be fielding lots of balls. Outfielders can serve as support, be breaking, be setting up hitting, getting their running in, or working back in, over the shoulders, etc.

One coach hits from first base side and one from third base side. The options are limitless. I am sure that most of you have utilizes this drill. However, most use it in a conventional way. Expand your thoughts to include situational work within this drill, as well as "routine" play.

Examples:

  • 3B to 1;SS and 2B turning to an auxiliary 1B.
  • SS to 3B and 3B on chopper to SS covering for force; 2B to 1 and 2B at one on short/choppy grounder; C to 2 on a steal.
  • SS in hole, fake1, back door to 2 and 2B to right using footwoork to force at 2; 3B bunt footwork, look 2, go 1 and 1B bunt footwork, look 2, go 1
  • 3B to 2 and turn-it to auxiliary 1B; SS to 1B.
  • Middles turning; 3B, step 3 for force, go 1 for DP and 1B receives inside throw from catcher and throws 3 (bunt sit.)
