Arizona improved to 13-0 on the season and jumped to No. 1 in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll, released Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Wildcats were victorious at the Baylor-hosted Compass Bank Invitational. Arizona defeated then-No. 11 Baylor 1-0 after posting victories over Sam Houston State, Birmingham Southern and Louisiana Tech.
California dropped its first game of the season, a 5-2 loss to Texas A&M, and dropped one spot to No. 2 in the latest rankings. The Bears managed to defeat a pair of top 10 teams in Texas and Tennessee at the Palm Springs Classic.
Stanford went 6-0 last week and moved up one spot to No. 3, while UCLA dropped a pair of games to Big XII foes Oklahoma State and Texas and dropped to fourth. Tennessee remained fifth despite losing its first two games of the season.
Louisiana-Lafayette held on to the No. 6 spot after a 3-1 performance at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Alabama and Michigan are tied for seventh, while Texas and Baylor round out the top 10.
Oklahoma, which won the rain-shortened Leadoff Classic, moved up two spots to No. 11. The next four ranked teams are LSU, Georgia, Washington and Texas A&M.
Florida dropped its only game of the week to Bethune-Cookman, and fell two spots to No. 16. Nebraska, Oregon State, Georgia Tech and Florida State follow the Gators in the poll.
The last five ranked teams are Oregon, Florida International, Missouri, Fresno State and Northwestern.
